Featured in INMA: How Vedanta Software Helped a Newspaper Beat Digital Piracy
Posted By Ankur Gupta On 13 Jul 2026 21:53:52 Under New and Updates

When Sach Kahoon, a Hindi-Punjabi newspaper published across multiple Indian states, moved from free e-paper access to a paid subscription model, the goal was simple: protect print revenue and build a sustainable digital income stream. The transition was powered by Vedanta Software's cloud-based Epaper CMS.
But success brought an unexpected challenge. Soon after the paywall went live, pirated copies of full editions started circulating on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram — completely bypassing the subscription.
The impact was serious. Genuine subscribers began switching to pirated copies, both print and digital revenue took a 10-15% hit, and the publisher had no way to trace where the leaks were coming from.
Solving it required an evolving, multi-layered security strategy. Working closely with Sach Kahoon, Vedanta Software's engineering team developed and deployed a series of proprietary anti-piracy protections — refining the approach each time new leak patterns emerged, until every avenue of unauthorized access was closed.
The results: piracy across both PDFs and images was eliminated entirely, subscription revenue recovered by 10-15%, and the publisher regained full confidence in its digital security.
This work is featured by INMA (International News Media Association) — recognition of a broader principle we operate by: digital piracy protection isn't a one-time fix, it's an ongoing engineering discipline. The protections built through this process have since been extended across Vedanta Software's entire network of 500+ media house clients, strengthening digital publishing security industry-wide.
